After Choosing Your Wedding Location!

Once you Have chosen the location for your special day the next step is to be sure you reserve it. Often the best locations are reserved many months ahead. Especially if you are inviting guests. You would not want to arrive and find that you have no wedding location. If you are working with a Wedding Planner, they will most likely be doing this for you. Be sure to send whatever deposit is required. Most locations will not hold a location without a deposit. Many have rules and regulations you have to follow as well. This should all be discussed with your planner so that when you arrive there are no surprises.

Destination Wedding Location

The first thing you need to consider is where you want to be married at the destination of choice. If it is a location where there are beaches be sure to find a beach that will not be crowded or off limits. You want to be sure it is alright to use the beach of choice. You do not want a State official to interrupt and stop your wedding in the middle of the ceremony.

At the same time, if you choose to stay and get married at a private home you will want to be sure to have permission to use it for the wedding as well. Sometimes neighbors can be a problem. In other words you can not just get married anywhere you choose. Even though it is a religious ceremony and the Constitution says you can, you will find that not everyone goes by the rules.

Once you have a location and a permit if one is needed, you are set to go. You then know that nobody should be interrupting your ceremony. This same advice applies to receptions as well.

I remember once, going to a waterfall in the woods to do a wedding and someone saw us hiking the trail. Suddenly a jeep descended upon us and we found out that the land had been sold and the new owners wanted to be paid if you used their waterfall. That was a real surprise we did not need or expect. If you use a wedding planner at your destination they should be aware and inform you of any rules or regulation that apply to your situation. http://www.justmauied.com/location.html

More Wedding Advice:

I usually tell my couples to keep it simple. When you start doing crazy things there is an opportunity for disaster. You are just inviting trouble. Sometimes however it can be worth it. I try not to say no to anything that my couples ask for but I still have to advise them of the perils that they may have to face. Some couples do not want to hear about it. Never the less it is my job to consult with them and give them my best advice. The above wedding was an example of a wedding that could have been a disaster but it turned out to be my favorite wedding of all. Not to say we did not have our problems.

Underwater Ministers are hard to come by and I in fact only had one. The day before the wedding she called me and told me she had injured her back and could not make the dive. The first thing I did was wish that I had been certified to dive. I could have done the wedding for them and my worries would have been over. Unfortunately that was not a possibility so I started working on my resources and had no luck. The only other underwater Minister I knew was off island.

Well, the hardest part was telling the couple the bad news. We would have to do the wedding on the beach. I waited for them to arrive and of all the crazy things, when I told them the news they said they had been to the dive shop for their equipment and met a man that was a minister and a diver. So I called him and he had never done an underwater wedding but he was willing to try. By the next day we had the whole thing all together and he did a fabulous job. This wedding was awesome and the couple was awesome and the weather was perfect. I was so happy that it all went the way that it did.

Some couples are a lot of fun and yes, I do have the photo that came next! These days a lot of couples choose to "trash the dress" which is great fun for the photographer.

Some Advantages of a Destination Wedding

The best thing about a destination wedding is that it will save you a lot of money! You do not have to invite 100 people and feed and entertain them. Not to say that some couples don't do just that. But with a destination wedding you have the option of just getting away by yourselves and actually being able to enjoy the whole process. Sometimes with families that are somewhat alienated this is the best option. I always ask my couples why they chose a destination wedding and most of the time it is because one or both sets of parents were divorced and not getting a long. Sometimes just the process of planning a large wedding, not to mention the expense, drives couple to just give it up and run away to be married.

Whatever the reason, the couple is usually pleased to find out that they now have the time and the space to enjoy this special day without worrying about the guests or relatives.

Destination Wedding Advice

I have some advice for anyone that may be planning a destination wedding. Since 1988 I have helped over 7000 couples with their wedding plans here on Maui! Be sure to check on the marriage license requirements in the location you choose and be sure that your marriage will be recognized in you home country. Also consider the weather. If you are planning a beach wedding you want to go where there is very little chance of rain. You also want to have a back up plan just in case it does rain. Most wedding planners do have a back up plan. Sometimes with destination weddings you can not change the date due to the time restraints of your visit or those of your guests.
